February 10th, 2010 — Celebrate!, Gourmet Cookies, President's Day
Presidents’ Day, nestled between Lincoln’s birthday (February 12th) and Washington’s birthday (February 22nd), this federal holiday is observed on the third Monday of February and falls on Monday, February 15th this year.
Have kids? Go here and find some great kids activities, games, crafts, and historical facts! Plan a small President’s Day party for your children and their friends and serve gourmet cookies to munch on while the kiddies are making log cabins out of pretzels and white cotton-ball wigs.
Attend or host a patriotic event—no events going on in your area and can’t make it to Washington D.C.? Host a President’s Day party of your own! Serve foods that are inspired by U.S. Presidents’ favorite foods. All of our Presidents were of course different in their tastes: from gourmets to medical restricted diets, some loved classic French cuisine (Jefferson, Kennedy), while others liked “down home” simple food (Adams, Johnson), and some efficiently viewed food as fuel (Lincoln, Wilson). Whatever you decide to serve, incorporating the national colors red, white and blue will transform any meal into one that is patriotic!
Make an effort to support our troops and support our veterans. Whether that means sending letters, or monetary donations to our active troops, to visiting your veteran neighbor down the street (bring treats and ask him/her to share some of their stories!), a little attention for all of sacrifice and service they’ve given certainly goes a long way.
Brush up on history (U.S. or otherwise) by watching a few clips on the History Channel or stop by Barnes & Noble and pick up a book or documentary about something in history that intrigues you.
What do you do especially for President’s Day? We’d LOVE to hear from you: Any fun stories, traditions or party tips you’d like to share? Email us at email@example.com and tell us your favorite celebration tips!

February 9th, 2010 — Celebrate!, Mardi Gras, Party Inspiration
Since not all of us can go to Mobile (where Mardi Gras started and the carnivals last a week!), we might as well try to recreate the spirit of ‘Fat Tuesday’ and the New Orleans parade on Bourbon Street in our respective parties wherever we may live. Here are a few tips to make for one exciting evening, February 16th!
Masked Ball Theme
Decorate with vibrant colors and carnival stripes. Try to find images, balloons, lights, garland, ribbons, feathers, glitter, beads, and decor that resemble or give the essence of the Bourbon Street characters such as Medusa, Hydra, the Sphinx and Unicorn.
Invite guests to dress up and wear brilliant colored and ornate costumes with masks. Mardi Gras official colors and symbolism: green (“faith”), gold (“power”) and purple (“justice”).
Serve a table of hors d’oeuvres with gumbo, cornbread, jambalaya, red beans and rice, dips and vegetables, and, for the dessert bar, Gourmet Cookies.
We wish you all a very exciting and safe Mardi Gras party!
P.S. We’d LOVE to hear from you: Any fun stories, traditions or party tips you’d like to share? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us your favorite party tips!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookie
OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIE: You are a natural. Your idea of relaxation has everything to do with being outside in a beautiful landscape—curled up in a shady hammock with a great read (a popular title, but not trendy), hiking with friends, or pruning your yard and garden. You appreciate simplicity and beauty. Your life is holistic. You follow the mantra that says things are best when made from scratch. You practice this in the kitchen with the meals you prepare and also in your handmade gifts. You would rather spend an evening with a few close friends and family than have large and rambunctious get-together. You are admired by your family and friends as someone who is confident, serene, and a natural beauty.
Heavenly Spotlight Questionnaire:

February 3rd, 2010 — Party + Event Inspiration, Super Bowl Sunday
Super Bowl Sunday Party Ideas
Since we, at Heidi’s Heavenly Cookies, love to entertain, we thought we could share helpful hints to help inspire you to transform something as casual and laid back as a Super Bowl Party into a fun and stylish affair. Let’s start with looks and move on from there…
Decorate the TV room with your team colors, and if, heaven forbid, you’re having guests over that are rooting for the opposing team…keep your composure and simply decorate each side of the room with a different team color—perhaps even tape a line down the center of the room for some fun rivalry.
Place a few mini foam fingers in a bowl for the kids to find and play with and you’re good to go (you may even want to set up a separate kids room so that they can watch what they want and play/talk freely).
Arrange for pizza delivery or a giant sub sandwich, with healthy options like veggies and dip. Keep plenty of beverages out in a bucket of ice to whet everyone’s whistle. The next step should really help too (if could be so bold to say so ourselves)…
Create an elegant dessert bar by presenting copious amounts of gourmet cookies on a table—to help with rising anger issues…okay, hopefully it doesn’t get too bad, but safety 1st! Add a touch of glamour to the room with vase of fresh flowers, and voila!
